Actor Types

In “The Godfather” three actors that stand out for their acting type in the movie and for other works are Al Pacino, Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall. Al Pacino and Marlon Brando are known for their roles in movies and both are personality actors. Robert Duvall is an actor that appears in different movies as a character actor.  Al Pacino’s personality as Michael Corleone is portrayed strongly just as he always does in his roles such as “Scent of Woman” and “Scarface.” His personality comes out in the strong characters that he plays that always knows the next move and has his motives for his actions. Marlon Brando plays Don Vito Corleone in “The Godfather” and brings his personality into the character so much so that this part has been described as his best roll of all time by many film critics. These two actors appear alongside Robert Duvall who is a character actor with such roles as General Robert E. Lee in “Gods and Generals” and Otto Halliwell in “Gone in Sixty Seconds.”

In their roles in “The Godfather” the audience can see the characters bringing out each actors personality just as the other roles that they have played did. Al Pacino is recognized for his roles that typically have him as a stronger character, with the ability to influence others. His role in “The Devil’s Advocate” is such a role. Marlon Brando plays the Don of the Mafia family and the same personality that audiences have come to know and recognize that appeared in other characters he has played in. Robert Duvall is a character actor that brings his style to each character that he plays.

Al Pacino brings into all his roles the hardships and experience of his youth that help create such a powerful personality actor. In all the roles that Pacino has played in he brings the same smooth, distant, individual attributes to each. His personality is what helps draw audiences in; it gives each role he plays a similar feel that he has mastered so well over the years.
